Google Unveils Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 in India: Pricing, Features, and Availability
On August 13, 2024, Google introduced the Pixel 9 series in India, marking their global debut. These new models, successors to the Pixel 8 series, come pre-installed with Android 14 and promise 7 years of OS and security updates.
The Pixel 9 series also features upgraded Gen AI capabilities with Gemini Nano. However, Indian users will not have access to the built-in VPN and satellite SOS functionalities.
In a significant move, Google is opening three company-operated service centers in India—initially in Delhi and Bangalore, with a Mumbai location launching soon. These centers will provide dedicated support for Pixel and Nest devices.
Google Pixel 9 Pro vs. Pixel 9 Pro XL: Key Differences and Specifications
The Google Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL share many features but differ mainly in their screen sizes and weights. The Pixel 9 Pro weighs approximately 199 grams, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL is slightly heavier at around 221 grams.
The Pixel 9 Pro boasts a 6.3-inch LTPO OLED Super Actua display with a resolution of 1280 x 2856 pixels, delivering 495 ppi and a refresh rate that ranges from 1 Hz to 120 Hz. It can achieve a peak brightness of 3,000 nits.
In contrast, the Pixel 9 Pro XL features a larger 6.8-inch LTPO OLED Super Actua display with a resolution of 1344 x 2992 pixels, providing 486 ppi and a similar refresh rate range. The peak brightness capability remains the same as the Pixel 9 Pro.
Both the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL are equipped with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on both the front and back, and they boast an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.
In terms of camera systems, each model features a robust setup: a 50 MP main camera, a 48 MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom, and a 48 MP ultrawide sensor that also functions as a macro lens. For selfies, both phones include a 42 MP front-facing camera.
Under the hood, both the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL are powered by Google’s custom Tensor G4 processor, paired with 16 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of storage. They are set to be among the first devices to receive Android 15 upon its release. The Pixel 9 Pro is equipped with a 4,700 mAh battery, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL features a larger 5,060 mAh battery. Both models support 45 W wired charging but do not include a charger in the box. Google claims both phones can achieve up to 70% charge in just 30 minutes and offer all-day battery life.
The Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL are available in four colors: Obsidian, Porcelain, Hazel, and Rose Quartz.
Pricing and Availability for Google Pixel 9 Series
The Google Pixel 9 Pro will be available starting at ₹1,09,999, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL will have a starting price of ₹1,24,999. The more accessible Pixel 9 is priced at ₹79,999.
Pre-orders for the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL will open on August 14, 2024. The smartphones will be available for purchase shortly thereafter.
For the first time in India, these devices will be sold through Flipkart, as well as in Reliance Digital and Croma stores.
